If you wake up in the mornings with a headache, have pain in your jaw when eating or talking, or find you clench your teeth during the day, you may be grinding or clenching your teeth during the night.
Bruxism (parafunction) or Teeth Grinding as it is more commonly known, is a subconscious habit where people put pressure on their teeth while they sleep at night. Over time, this can cause damage to your teeth and jaw and cause pain. It can be more noticeable when you are stressed. Bruxism is most common in those aged 25-44 but it can affect people of all ages, including children. The good news is that there are effective treatments to prevent teeth grinding and resolve any damage to your teeth and jaw.
Are You a Good Candidate for Bruxism Treatment?
A consultation is performed in order to understand the extent of teeth grinding and its effect on your oral health.
Facial symmetry, occlusal cants, and parafunctional habits are evaluated as well.
After a complete evaluation a personalized treatment plan is created.
For Botox:
On the treatment day, Botox injections are administered into specific muscles of the jaw.
The desired locations are numbed with a topical paste to reduce sensation
We will provide post op instructions to minimize discomfort
For Nightguards:
On treatment day, precise impressions or scans of your teeth are taken. These are used to fabricate a custom nightguard designed to fit your teeth perfectly.
After fabrication from our lab, we will deliver and adjust the nightguard
Delivery & After Care
For Botox:
After the injections have been administered, the patient is advised on post-treatment care. This may include avoiding certain activities and taking care of the injection site.
For Nightguards:
Once the custom nightguard has been created, the patient returns to the office for a fitting. Necessary adjustments are made to ensure comfort and effectiveness.
At this point, the patient is educated on how to use, clean, and care for their nightguard, or how to maintain the results of their Botox treatment.
Regular follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor the progress of the treatment and to make any necessary adjustments or reapplications.
These treatments aim not only to protect your teeth but also to improve your quality of sleep and overall quality of life.
